Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing: History and the 1:24 Diecast Model

The Mercedes-Benz 300SL is one of the most recognizable classic sports cars. Our 1:24 scale Benz 300SL alloy diecast model brings that famous shape to your shelf.

The real car

Mercedes-Benz built the 300SL (chassis code W198) as a coupé from 1954 to 1957 and as a roadster from 1957 to 1963. The coupé debuted at the New York International Auto Show in February 1954. Its lightweight tubular frame ran high along the sides, leaving no room for ordinary doors, so the coupé got its famous upward-opening "gullwing" doors. It was also one of the first cars with mechanical direct fuel injection. Only 1,400 coupés were built.
